Cat foster family or family boarding for cats
Cat foster care or family boarding: is it really the best solution?
When you have to be away for a few days or longer, a crucial question arises: how can you find someone to look after your cat with complete peace of mind?
One of the most popular solutions is a cat foster family, also known as a cat boarding kennel.
But is this alternative, often perceived as warm and friendly, really suitable for your companion? And is there an option that is more respectful of cats’ well-being? Spoiler: yes.
What is a foster family for cats?
- is being transported to a new place,
- has to adapt to a new space, new smells, and even other animals,
- is being looked after by someone who does not yet know them.
When should you use a family boarding kennel for cats or kittens?
Many owners turn to family cat boarding in the following situations:
- Holidays or extended stays (1 to 3 weeks or more) When going on holiday or travelling for work, some owners entrust their cat to a foster family. They feel this is more personal than a cat hotel, while still ensuring human company.
- Occasional weekends or special events For weddings, moving house or hospitalisation, foster care is sometimes used as a temporary solution. The cat stays there for a few days, until the situation stabilises.
- Day care (rare but possible) Although this is uncommon for cats, some very sociable cats, or those with specific needs (medical care, regular stimulation, anxiety disorders), may require occasional day care.
- Recurring absences or demanding lifestyle In the case of business trips or irregular working hours, some people opt for regular care. Family boarding is sometimes seen as a compromise to limit the cat’s loneliness.
What are the advantages (and limitations)? for your cat?
On paper, foster care for cats may seem reassuring.
â What pet-owners appreciate
- Regular human presence
- Fewer cats than in traditional cat boarding facilities
- A family environment perceived as more pleasant
But in reality, cats have very specific needs, and a change in environment is often a source of stress, even in a quiet home.
â ïž What we sometimes forget:
- Territory is essential for a cat: removing it from its environment can be very upsetting.
- It may have to live with other animals, which it does not always appreciate.
- Adapting to a new place can take several days… sometimes longer than the duration of the foster care itself.
- A stressed cat may change its behaviour (running away, uncleanliness, aggression or isolation).
- The journey to the foster family is also a source of anxiety for many cats
Why Blooming Pets does not offer foster care?
Our priority is to respect the fundamental nature of cats, which are territorial animals that follow routines and are often wary of change.
Changing their environment and familiar surroundings, and sometimes imposing the presence of other animals, can completely disrupt their emotional balance.
Furthermore, we want to guarantee:
- A one-to-one relationship between the cat sitter and your cat, with no other animals to manage.
- Complete continuity in their habits, their points of reference, their rhythm and their environment.
- And optimal security, without any unexpected events linked to an unknown source.
As a platform specialising in animal welfare at home, we prefer to focus on a more respectful, gentler and more tailored approach through home cat sitting.

Our alternative : Cat sitting at home, without stress or travel
- feed him,
- clean its litter tray,
- play with him (if he/she agrees đ),
- monitor their general condition and behaviour,
- and send you regular updates.
đż At Blooming Pets, we believe that every cat deserves to be respected for its sensitivity, pace and territory. That’s why we have chosen to offer you a cat-friendly service: at home, personalised and caring.
